Biography – Kate van Houten, CMT
In April of 1997, Kate began training as a massage therapist at the Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado (MTIC), 1441 York Street, Denver, Colorado. She graduated in the spring of 1998 with a 4.0 average and with a letter of honor. Her certification was issued September 1998. She became a Certified Member of Associated Bodywork & Professionals Association in August of 1999, after which Knot A Problem LLC was formed in the State of Colorado.
Kate van Houten has complied with the licensing requirements of Colorado's Massage Therapy Practice Act, Colorado Revised Statutes 12-35.5-101. Her Colorado State License number is # MT-1922.

Utilization of John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (JFB MFR), NeuroMuscular Therapy (NMT), soft tissue mobilization and Reiki as well as other energetic modalities in the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of individuals with chief concerns including:
- chronic pain
- treatment for cancer
- accident and trauma
- post-surgical recovery
- stress relief
- pre- and post-natal care
- as a component of training for athletic competitions
- healthy living
Kate has solid experience working in cooperation with chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, applied kinesiologists, psychologists and complementary care practitioners as well as orthopedists, physical therapists and occupational therapists to further serve clients' health care needs.
In addition, Kate was the featured massage therapist in "How to Select a Massage Therapist" – produced by MedStar – a 2 minute video short provided to and aired by KWGN Channel 2, September 17, 2000 9 pm broadcast. Copy of video available upon request (return necessary).
Community Involvement
Nine years as a Big Sister to one Little Sister through Big Brothers/Big Sisters in San Francisco, California.
Regular contributor of gift certificates for silent auction and other fundraisers for, among others, 2009 silent auction for Colorado CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children).
Provider of chair massage to benfit spiritual and teaching organizations.
Additional experience outside of Massage field:
32 years law office staff, including: secretarial, managerial, administrative, critical date management, client records management and computer systems design, installation, management and training.
5 years as independent computer consultant – teaching, training, assisting clients in assessment of needs and appropriate acquisitions to fill needs.
